Kamara could have big season

Using our rules for our money leagues, we came up with a schedule strength ranking for the running back position. We are using our fantasy defenses report to calculate the rankings. This report can be found in all of our leagues under the "reports" heading. We took the schedule of each team and entered the average number of fantasy points allowed to running backs last season from all of their opponents to get our fantasy points allowed number. This is a good indication of the running backs with the most favorable schedules for fantasy scoring for the coming season. Defenses obviously change from year to year, but knowing the running backs that might have the easiest schedule for fantasy is always a good idea when formulating your rankings and draft strategy.

32. New Orleans 404.73

The Saints have the easiest fantasy schedule for running backs this season. This is great news for Alvin Kamara, who could have a big season if he can stay healthy. New Orleans has plenty of questions at quarterback after the retirement of Derek Carr. Kamara could be the focal point of new head coach Kellen Moore’s offense. He could get a huge workload with a favorable schedule.

Bijan Robinson had a huge season last year and seems setup for more success this year. He gets the second most favorable schedule. You can make a strong case for Robinson to be the top pick in this year’s draft and a great schedule helps that case even more.

The Cardinals, 49ers and Seahawks round out the top five most favorable schedules for running backs. James Conner is getting older but continues to be the lead back for the Cardinals and produced a solid season last year. He could be setup for more of the same this year.

Christian McCaffrey is a huge injury risk but might have the highest ceiling of any running back. He is the ultimate boom-or-bust pick. And you have to love seeing the easy schedule for him. He might be worth rolling the dice on this season.

Kenneth Walker gets a new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak calling plays for him this year. Kubiak has a history of producing some big-time fantasy back. This is great news for Walker as is his very favorable schedule. He might have a career-best season.

You never want to go against Derrick Henry but having the toughest schedule for running backs is a little concerning. Plus, he is another year older with a ton of carries under his belt. We would still expect plenty of success from Henry but he might not be able to repeat last year’s huge season.

The Lions have arguably the top rushing offense in football but that will be put to the test this year with the second toughest schedule for running backs. Jahmyr Gibbs is one of the top fantasy backs in the game right now and will be hard to slow no matter the opponent. You do have to worry a little about this schedule, though, especially with the Lions having a new offensive coordinator calling plays. Maybe the run offense won’t be quite as potent as last year.

The Commanders, Bears and Chargers also have top five most challenging schedules for running backs. Washington doesn’t have the most potent rushing attack to begin with, so going with any of their backs on your fantasy roster might not be a risk worth taking.

Chicago seems setup for a better season running the ball with Ben Johnson now calling plays, but there remain questions about their running backs. Is D’Andre Swift their clear top option and can he take his game to a new level? The Bears options at running back are a little scary for fantasy owners right now.

The Chargers like to run the ball and have two new backs leading the backfield, but both could carry a little risk because of a tough schedule. Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris have some real potential in this offense, but you have to wonder how consistent they might be splitting carries and playing a lot of challenging rush defense.

We also wanted to look at playoff schedules for fantasy running backs. So we crunched the numbers of all the schedules from Week 15-17, which is the fantasy playoffs for most leagues. We know you have to get to the playoffs first, but knowing the running backs with the easiest playoff schedules doesn’t hurt by any means, especially in the big-money contests.

32. New York Jets 430.63

The Seahawks and Saints are two teams that make both the easiest schedule lists. This is great news for anyone really looking at grabbing Kamara and Walker this season. These guys could end up being difference makers for fantasy owners.

The Jets actually have the most favorable playoff schedule. There was talk this offseason that the team might try to trade Breece Hall, but that didn’t happen. As long as he is around, Hall will lead the backfield and get a lot of work. He could produce big down the stretch this year.

The Colts and Bucs also have top-five favorable schedules for the playoffs. Bucky Irving had a breakout rookie season and will start from day one this year. He also has a pretty easy overall schedule, making him a very attractive option for fantasy teams.

And Jonathan Taylor continues to lead the Colts backfield and could get a ton of work once again in an offense that might be a little run heavy. He gets overlooked at times for some reason, but Taylor remains one of the best in the game and could be a huge factor in the fantasy playoffs.

The Chargers are the only team with unfavorable schedules for both the entire season and the playoffs. Los Angeles actually has the hardest schedule for the playoffs. This is not good news for their split backfield this season. You might want to move these guys down your rankings a little more.

Pittsburgh has the second most challenging schedule for the playoffs. The Steelers are another team with a likely split backfield. Both Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson could have some struggles in the big games for fantasy owners. Just something to keep in mind for draft day.

The Bills, Raiders and Cowboys have top five tough schedules during the playoffs. Dallas stands out on the list because they already have some question marks for running backs. None of their backs might be worth taking because of the uncertainty and challenging playoff schedule.

James Cook and Ashton Jeanty are both highly rated fantasy backs this year. We might not ding them too much in your rankings, though. The Bills have an elite offense and don’t get slowed by too many defenses. Expect more of the same from Cook this year. And Jeanty is setup for a huge workload in the Raiders offense, including in the passing game. This gives him a great weekly floor to produce even if he isn’t able to find a ton of room to run the ball.

Christian Gonzalez May 20 11:50pm ET
Christian Gonzalez

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (concussion) took part in the first practice of organized team activities on Tuesday and looked excellent after suffering a head injury in the Week 18 regular-season finale last year. Gonzalez is already looking like the shutdown corner he was in 2024, according to The Athletic's Chad Graff, intercepting quarterback Drake Maye twice on Tuesday. The former first-round selection (17th overall) in 2023 out of Oregon is a player that New England plans to build around on the defensive side of the ball, and he's expected to take on a bigger leadership role in his third year in the league. The 22-year-old finished last year with 59 tackles (50 solo), 11 pass breakups, two interceptions and a fumble recovery in 16 games played.

Colton Dowell May 20 11:40pm ET
Colton Dowell

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Colton Dowell (knee) has been taking part in organized team activities this week after missing the entire 2024 campaign following a torn ACL and meniscus in Week 17 of 2023. Dowell was the team's seventh-round selection (228th overall) in the 2023 NFL draft out of UT Martin. He appeared in only 10 games (one start) in his rookie season and hauled in one of his two targets for three yards. Most of his playing time that year came on special teams. Dowell is once again healthy, though, so he'll be gunning for a bigger role on offense heading into the 2025 campaign this fall. He'll be facing an uphill battle to even make the 53-man active roster out of training camp, though, as he's currently buried on the receiver depth chart behind Calvin Ridley, Tyler Lockett, Van Jefferson, Treylon Burks, rookies Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike, and James Proche II.

Drake Maye May 20 11:40pm ET
Drake Maye

The Athletic's Chad Graff reports that New England Patriots second-year quarterback Drake Maye struggled in his first practice at organized team activities on Tuesday. Nobody should be putting too much stock into it, but Maye tossed four interceptions on his 16 pass attempts with the defense dominating early on. Three of the throws were outright misses, and one of them came on a batted pass on a throw behind his intended receiver. It's not all that surprising, though, with defenses usually ahead at this time of year and with Maye learning a new offensive scheme from Josh McDaniels. The 22-year-old former third overall pick eventually took over starting duties last year from Jacoby Brissett and predictably struggled for a Pats team lacking many offensive weapons. Drake showed signs of greatness, though, and he should be able to take a step forward in McDaniels' scheme with improved offensive weapons.

Cam Ward May 20 11:30pm ET
Cam Ward

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan isn't rushing to make any announcements on the team's starting quarterback despite the team taking Cam Ward with the first overall pick in this year's NFL draft. So far as the Titans work through Phase 2 of their offseason activities, Ward and Will Levis have split reps evenly. "It will change probably a little bit when we get to the next phase of OTAs and there's some 7-on-7," Callahan said Tuesday. Callahan also praised both signal-callers with how they've handled the situation so far. Levis worked with personal QB coach Jordan Palmer in California in the offseason, while Ward has been gradually getting to know his new teammates while learning the playbook. Callahan said it's premature to name Ward the starter since there is a lot of work to be done in the next three months, but it will be a surprise if the Miami product isn't starting in Week 1 on the road against Denver.

Tyjae Spears May 20 11:30pm ET
Tyjae Spears

Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears (concussion) has been taking part in the team's organized team activities this week after sitting out the Week 18 regular-season finale against the Houston Texans at the end of last season. The 23-year-old has obviously recovered from his head injury and will be ready for the start of the 2025 campaign this fall. Tony Pollard was a workhorse back for the team in 2024 in his first year in Tennessee, but head coach Brian Callahan has already been hinting that it might be in the team's best interest to take some of the load off of Pollard in order to keep him healthy. Spears, who is more of a pass-catching back, was only active for 12 games last year and had 84 carries for 312 yards and four TDs on the ground, adding 30 catches for 224 yards and another score. He's elusive with the ball in his hands, so if he can stay healthy, Spears could be a nice sleeper pick late in fantasy drafts.

Tony Pollard May 20 2:40pm ET
Tony Pollard

Tennessee Titans running back Tony Pollard (ankle) said his rehab and recovery efforts from a late-season sprained ankle have gone "great," and it has allowed him to prepare better this offseason compared to last. The former Dallas Cowboy enjoyed a relatively productive season in his first year with Tennessee, considering the poor offensive environment he played in. Overall, Pollard rushed 260 times for 1,079 yards and five touchdowns. He added 41 receptions for 238 yards through the air. While he should be penciled in as the team's RB1 again in 2025, he could split more time with Tyjae Spears if the former Tulane back can stay healthy. Additionally, sixth-round rookie running back Kalel Mullings, a 230-pound bruiser, could mix in near the goal line. Pollard continues to have RB2 upside and starting appeal in favorable matchups, but he might not operate as a workhorse next season.

Micah Parsons May 20 2:30pm ET
Micah Parsons

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons attended the first day of voluntary OTAs on Monday despite the All-Pro seeking a new contract with the organization. Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie deal after collecting 256 tackles (172 solo), 52.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, 41 run stuffs, and nine pass deflections in 63 career games. Needless to say, the four-time Pro Bowler is due for a nice payday, as he ranks outside the top 50 edge rushers in average salary ($4.27 million). His presence at the voluntary portion of the offseason is promising for the two sides potentially reaching a deal, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer said, "It means a lot to me" for Parsons to show up.

Dak Prescott May 20 2:20pm ET
Dak Prescott

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (hamstring) will take most of the team's first-team reps at OTAs after healing up from a torn hamstring, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Prescott missed the final nine games of the 2024 season due to the lower-body ailment but looks to be firmly on track to be 100% healthy to start the 2025 season. The former fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State is entering his 10th NFL campaign with Dallas and has thrown for 31,437 yards, 213 touchdowns, and 82 interceptions in 122 career contests. While Prescott is not the same runner as he was early in his career, he's still mobile and has a solid group of weapons to work with in CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Jake Ferguson. At his QB13 ADP, he is a tremendous second QB in superflex formats, and he could be a viable single-QB fantasy option in the right matchups.

George Pickens May 20 1:40pm ET
George Pickens

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said he has been impressed with the early work of wide receiver George Pickens, especially in the meeting room. "I see a guy that's maturing," Schottenheimer said. The Cowboys made a splash this offseason by acquiring Pickens and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2026 third-rounder and a 2027 fifth-rounder. The 24-year-old is a nice upgrade at WR2 behind CeeDee Lamb in Dallas, and it's also a nice move for Pickens' fantasy value in 2025, as he'll be working with by far the best quarterback in his career in Dak Prescott. The former second-rounder in 2022 out of Georgia has had at least 801 yards receiving in his three NFL seasons but should have a chance for a career year in Dallas in 2025 in an offense that should be pass-happy under Schottenheimer.

Shemar Stewart May 20 1:40pm ET
Shemar Stewart

Cincinnati Bengals first-round rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart will remain away from the team for Phase 2 of the team's offseason workouts that start on Tuesday due to a disagreement over contract language in his rookie deal, according to FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz. The 21-year-old was the 17th overall pick in this year's NFL draft, and he's reportedly requesting that his contract language be the same as the team's last two first-round selections. Stewart is missing important repetitions before his rookie season, but it would be a surprise if his holdout lasted deep into the summer for training camp. In addition to working out an agreement on Stewart's rookie deal, the Bengals are tied up in a disagreement over a long-term contract extension for All-Pro pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson this offseason.

From RotoBaller

Brian Callahan May 20 1:30pm ET
Brian Callahan

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said that running back Tony Pollard carried the ball a lot last year. In a perfect world, Callahan said the team needs a more even split in the backfield with Pollard, Tyjae Spears and possibly a third back. This sounds like a nightmare for fantasy managers targeting the Tennessee backfield, especially with rookie quarterback Cam Ward set to lead the offense in 2025. If Tennessee doesn't add a back off the street, the third RB that could be involved alongside Pollard and Spears could be rookie Kalel Mullings, a converted linebacker who ran for 1,170 yards and 13 touchdowns on 221 carries in 2024. The Titans' offense relied heavily on the 28-year-old Pollard last year in his first year with the team, but fantasy managers should not be expecting that same type of volume this season.

From RotoBaller

Geno Smith May 20 1:20pm ET
Geno Smith

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith said he's ready to adjust to a new offense in 2025, something he's already done three times in the last three seasons. "I can adjust. And so, just an adjustment period, but the offense is really good. I'm looking forward to it. Won't give too many details, but we're looking to be explosive and efficient," Smith said. New offensive coordinator Chip Kelly's simplistic, fast-paced offenses have evolved in recent years, and he should give Smith the freedom to call audibles at the line of scrimmage. The 34-year-old Smith threw for a career-high 4,320 yards on 578 attempts in 2024, which ranked fourth-most in the league. He also had a career-high 15 interceptions. Smith was very accurate last year, but he won't have the volume in Vegas and doesn't have the kind of weapons through the air he had in Seattle. Still, Smith will be relevant in two-QB leagues in 2025.

Spencer Rattler May 19 11:20pm ET
Spencer Rattler

When asked about the possibility about the New Orleans Saints brining in a more experienced quarterback after Derek Carr's sudden retirement, head coach Kellen Moore said that "we'll give these guys a bunch of opportunities" before making any calls on adding outside help at the position. The team has moved into the third phase of their offseason workouts and are doing on-field work for QBs Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, rookie second-rounder Tyler Shough and Hunter Dekkers. Moore said it will be "a lot on the process and less on the results as we go through this phase." Even though Rattler has the most experience under center in the NFL heading into his second year, Shough is the current favorite to win the starting gig in training camp this summer. The Saints aren't looking at outside help right now, but that could change if Shough struggles as the team gets closer to training camp.

Travis Hunter May 19 11:00pm ET
Travis Hunter

SI.com's John Shipley writes that Jacksonville Jaguars rookie two-way star Travis Hunter looked to take a noticeable step forward in his first OTA practice on Monday after he looked like he was learning to become a full-time receiver during rookie minicamp. Hunter was crisper in his routes, showed consistent hands and was able to make a number of plays in team drills on Monday. There will be a progression to the 22-year-old's game at the NFL level, but it's a good sign that he's already showing improvement, and Shipley writes that Hunter will obviously play a major role in the Jags' offense in 2025 and beyond. Jacksonville appears to prefer to use the second overall pick on offense rather than defense early in his career, but it's still too early to say how much exactly he'll factor in on offense in 2025. The Heisman Trophy winner has the skill to be the No. 2 wideout immediately, but his fantasy value will depend on how much he's also used on defense.

Dyami Brown May 19 10:50pm ET
Dyami Brown

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Dyami Brown, who was picked up in free agency in the offseason, stood out in the team's first OTA practice on Monday, according to SI.com's John Shipley. Shipley writes that Brown made it clear that defenses will not be able to afford considering him an afterthought alongside Brian Thomas Jr. and rookie first-rounder Travis Hunter. Brown ran crisp routes and was one of the few receivers who didn't deal with drops while making explosive plays through the air and on designed touches as a ball-carrier. The 25-year-old earned praise from both head coach Liam Coen and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski. Brown, a former third-rounder by the Washington Commanders in 2021 out of North Carolina, mostly lingered at the bottom of the wideout depth chart in D.C. However, he could become the No. 2 WR if Hunter spends most of his time on defense in 2025.

Deshaun Watson May 19 10:30pm ET
Deshaun Watson

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson (Achilles) has been throwing to receivers Jerry Jeudy and David Bell at the team's facility and has been out of his walking boot for several weeks, a league source told The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. However, Watson is not part of the offseason QB competition among Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. The 29-year-old Watson had a second surgery on his Achilles back on Jan. 9 and is not expected to be ready to play at the start of the 2025 season this fall. In fact, he's widely expected to miss all of the 2025 campaign, with many believing that he's already played his last game for the Browns. Still, Watson has made "excellent progress" in his recovery from a torn right Achilles that he suffered last season. But given his injury and his off-field drama, Watson's NFL future remains very murky.

Kyren Williams May 19 10:20pm ET
Kyren Williams

Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams said he was "feeling good" about the possibility of him reaching a long-term contract extension with the team. "I know with time it's going to happen," Williams added. The two sides started talking about a potential extension in late March, but nothing has been agreed upon yet. The 24-year-old former fifth-round pick (164th overall) in 2022 out of Notre Dame was a first-time Pro Bowler in 2023 but was even better last year, rushing for a career-best 1,299 yards and a career-high 14 rushing touchdowns on 316 rushing attempts in 16 regular-season starts. He also added 34 receptions for 182 yards and another two TDs. In the last two years for the Rams, Williams has been as productive as they come, finding the end zone 31 times in 28 games. He was the RB6 in half-PPR scoring in 2024 and will be a clear RB1 target this fall in fantasy drafts.

Marvin Harrison Jr. May 19 10:20pm ET
Marvin Harrison Jr.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. said that he added muscle this offseason as a result of eating the right foods. "I definitely put on some pounds," Harrison said on Monday at the team's facility. "I think I added some muscle to my body a little bit. Still just trying to see how my body feels throughout OTAs. Kind of get that specific weight to settle in for training camp and go from there." The 22-year-old had high expectations in his rookie year in 2024 with Arizona after being the fourth overall pick, but he didn't live up to them after catching 62 passes for 885 yards and eight touchdowns. He thinks that "contested-catch situations, run after the catch" will be areas that he can improve in 2025 now that he's stronger and bigger. Tight end Trey McBride took a lot of targets away from Harrison, but he shouldn't have much competition for targets otherwise as he looks to improve in Year 2.

Fred Warner May 19 10:10pm ET
Fred Warner

The San Francisco 49ers and All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner agreed to terms on a new three-year contract extension on Monday worth $63 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal makes Warner the league's highest-paid linebacker, and he'll also receive $56.7 million guaranteed. The 28-year-old former third-rounder (70th overall) in the 2018 NFL draft out of BYU has been a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro in four of the last five seasons for the 49ers. Warner has recorded 100-plus total tackles in all seven of his NFL seasons and finished the 2024 campaign with 131 tackles (76 solo), a sack, five tackles for loss, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), seven pass breakups and four forced fumbles in 17 starts. Warner finished as the No. 6 fantasy linebacker in IDP leagues last year and will once again be a must-start in those formats in 2025.
